This is a photo of the shadow of a ball bearing hanging from a nail (using a magnet) being illuminated by a large laser beam. The patterns are a phenomenon called laser diffraction. Also, that small bright spot in the center of the circle called a Poisson spot. This demonstrates the wave nature of light.
